He is best known as being the husband of Dolley, who, although she did not dance, invented the snack cake. Dolley was the hostess with the mostest in Washington, D. C., for over 50 years. In fact, she was First Lady before her husband was even President. [This is a true fact.] James also wrote the Constitution. He was upset when everybody else had other ideas, like when Alexander Hamilton thought we needed a President for life. Hamilton died too young to know what it was like being President with a wife like Mary Todd Lincoln, or he would have thought otherwise. Madison wore a suit of black wool to his Inauguration, but then he always wore a suit of black wool, so we can't really say that was anything special.
